Urban Catalyst
University of Idaho, Architectural Design Studio, Fall 2013
Faculty: Prof. Robert Church
Location: Spokane, WA
The city of Spokane in western Washington is currently going through its urban renaissance. After years of economic decline, the dead motor-based city will be revived with a new master plan designed to accommodate human activity in a livable
scale. Therefore, the new tower will be the flagship of the reemerging city.
The concept of an urban catalyst is to increase the contact area between the permeable surfaces of the building and the public space with a design that blend public and private areas seamlessly. The tower section of the project is an apartment
as well as a hotel complex designed through the form finding process.
